BECKLEY, W.Va. — Members and visitors to Beckley’s Central Baptist Church celebrated Black History Month by honoring the youngest members of its congregation Sunday.
Following 2 Peter 3:18, “I pray that my children may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus,” the church’s youths told the audience of more than 50 that black history goes back to biblical days, and even before.
In quiet voices, the youths told powerful messages of black history, from the Egyptian queen Cleopatra to how field spirituals became the theme songs of the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
In between, the Senior Choir of Central Baptist Church sang with might as the audience shouted “Amen,” “Hallelujah” and encouraging words…
