How in the world did this happen?
How did a majority of American voters, when presented with the choice of a platform of hope, progress and inclusiveness, or a platform of hate, fear and divisiveness, opt to embrace the darkness?
How did a majority of American voters ignore one candidate’s many disqualifying factors, including felony convictions, impeachments, adjudication as a sexual abuser, and a ranking by a panel of esteemed historians and presidential scholars as the worst president in U.S. history?
How did a majority of American voters, observing that a candidate’s closing message seemingly consisted of a homage to Arnold Palmer’s genitals, simulating fellating a microphone stand and suggesting that a political opponent should be executed, conclude that this was the person best suited to lead the nation?
I spent the week pondering these questions, and came up with some possible explanations.
