Opinion: Country Roads Angel Network invests in W.Va. businesses to help restore economy

A significant entrepreneurial movement is taking place within West Virginia.

Many dedicated West Virginians have made it their mission to rebuild a state impacted by the downturn of the coal industry.

Entrepreneurial support programs, such as the WV Hive Network, have now formed throughout the state and are making a positive impact by supporting entrepreneurs to provide them with education and resources to improve their chance for success.

However, there has been one significant missing link to getting entrepreneurs on the road to success — the availability and access to early-stage funding.

Recently a few angel investors assembled to create the Country Roads Angel Network (CRAN) as part of the WV Hive to address the gap in access to capital in West Virginia to provide support to early-stage innovation-based companies.

CRAN will support all 55 counties in West Virginia, but many more investors are needed to fully support the thriving entrepreneurs with new start-ups. …
