Bridgeport airport lands another football team

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — North Central West Virginia Airport continues to receive good news.

Already ahead of last year’s passenger pace, the airport has landed another Big 12 football team — Baylor, which will use the local airport as well as the Wingate by Wyndham and Bridgeport Conference Center as its home away from home when the Bears visit for their game against WVU on Oct. 18.

The airport and hotel/conference center also teamed up to lure TCU to stay in the area, instead of Pittsburgh, when the Horned Frogs visit Nov. 1.

And the entities are working to secure other Big 12 teams — and in turn, their fans — when they visit to play the Mountaineers.

All of this is great news for the airport, local tourism and the region, especially when you consider that in the past those teams have been staying in Pittsburgh.

But that isn’t the only good news the airport received.

After several years of having limited interest from airlines in bidding for the Essential Air Service contract, three companies have indicated their intentions to offer bids to operate locally…
