WVU student who died at frat had 0.493 BAC

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A WVU student who died following a medical emergency at a frat house in November had a 0.493 BAC, police said Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Nolan Burch, 18, of Williamsville, N.Y., died Nov. 14, after what WVU officials described as a “catastrophic medical emergency” at the Kappa Sigma house.

Evidence collected during the investigation into Burch’s death has been referred to Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney Marcia Ashdown’s office for review.

According to a Morgantown Police Department press release: Officers went to the fraternity house, at 200 Belmar Ave., shortly before midnight Nov. 12, for an unknown medical emergency.

The first officer there found someone performing CPR on Burch, who wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. The officer continued CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Burch was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding Burch’s death. All evidence — including dozens of interviews, video footage, cell phone evidence and other information — has been referred to the prosecutor’s office for review…
