CHARLESTON, W.Va. — When Jo Marie Bohn first went to West Virginia University, she wasn’t aware of some of the Mountaineers’ main rivalries.
But now, looking back on her tennis career, which spanned from 1988-1992, matches against those very rivals are what stick out most.
Regardless of her opponent, more often than not Bohn won, and that penchant for winning set school records that still stand and have resulted in an induction into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame.
A reception was held at the Charleston Tennis Club on Thursday night and a formal ceremony will be held in Morgantown on Saturday afternoon with Bohn joining seven others, bringing the total number of Hall of Fame honorees to 156.
Bohn, a native of South Charleston and a Charleston Catholic graduate, is the first women’s tennis player to be inducted.
“I was shocked that they even called me,” Bohn said. “It’s a women’s sport and it’s small. But I’m definitely honored. I started looking through the Hall of Fame honorees before me and there’s some really big names in there.”
Her career record of 214-73 and singles mark of 112-30 are both tops in school history…
