MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU has sold about a third of its tickets and officials expect a small — but loud — group of Mountaineers fans at the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl.

Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Matt Wells said WVU has sold — or taken for its own usage — 2,100 tickets. The university receives 6,000 tickets for the bowl game, and Wells said he believes many fans heading to Phoenix purchased their tickets through the university. The Mountaineers are set to take on Arizona State in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 2. Kickoff is set for 10:15 p.m. at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The game is being aired on ESPN.

WVU’s Alumni Association, athletic department and others have organized fan activities beginning Friday and leading up to the game.

The WVU Alumni Association, WVU Foundation and Mountaineer Athletic Club will host a Mountaineer Meet and Greet at 5 p.m. (MT) Friday…
