WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Park Commission aims to renovate the original wing of Oglebay’s Wilson Lodge.

According to a legal advertisement seeking bids for the job, the project would involve renovations to the lodge’s original wing built in 1956.

The goal is to increase the size of existing rooms and possibly add a third story to building for possible construction of more rooms.

The original wing has 55 rooms, and with the addition the number of rooms would increase to 67.

“The project includes other amenities such as a new mid-building entry and stair, vending, Wi-Fi, guest laundry and … connections to other parts of Wilson Lodge not currently accessible from the original wing,” the notice states.

Rod Haley, vice president of operations for Oglebay, said plans still are still in the early stages.

“We’re not necessarily increasing rooms, we’re looking at renovation and possibly increasing. Our focus is on renovation of the current rooms,” he said.

The last major expansion to the lodge occurred in 2006 when a 53-room wing was added.

That project cost $15 million and included renovations to existing rooms.

In 2008, the West Spa was added along with six more premium guest rooms.

In 1997, a conference center wing was added, and in 1989 and 1999 renovations were made to the lodge’s Ihlenfeld Dining Room, according to Oglebay’s website.
