BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The plane is set, the veterans are ready and the guardians have been trained.
Everything is in place for Saturday’s Clarksburg Honor Flight, which will take 92 veterans to Washington, D.C., at no cost to them so they can visit the memorials that were built in their honor.
Last weekend, 50 guardians took part in training for the Honor Flight. Guardians will be assigned to take care of no more than two veterans throughout the day.
Jane Julian, hub director for Honor Flight Huntington, told the guardians that the second they meet the veterans they’re assigned to, they are responsible for them until the end of the day.
“You need to talk to them and ask them if they have to take any medicine during the day and if they have everything,” Julian told the guardians.
Julian said Saturday is “all about the veterans” and reminded the guardians to do whatever it takes to make it a special day for them.
“It’s a long day,” she said. “By the end of the day, you will have walked between three and five miles, and you’ll be pushing a wheelchair for that long, too…
