Leading Creek Elementary School, on the Gilmer and Lewis county line, needs only finishing touches before it is ready to open for the upcoming school year.
LINN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s first intercounty elementary school is scheduled to open in August.
Leading Creek Elementary School sits on land that straddles the Lewis-Gilmer county line. The school will replace Alum Bridge Elementary School in Lewis County and Troy Elementary School in Gilmer County.
Total cost of the new school is $10,359,800, with just under $10 million of that coming from the state School Building Authority, according to Lewis County Schools Central Office Administrator L.D. Skarzinski.
The project is in its final stages.
“We have some contractors still on site getting the final touches,” Skarzinski said. “It is dealing with some of our interior systems.
“It’s exciting because now you see a finished product,” he added. “It’s colorful. It’s bright. It’s very well built. We have a great opportunity. Anytime you build a new building, it excites everybody because it’s an enhancement to the educational process just being in a new facility.”
