BECKLEY, W.Va. — Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service by hiking 100 miles or more on trails in the New River Gorge National River and Bluestone National Scenic River in 2016.
The 100 Mile Challenge is the first of many local events during 2016 to celebrate this landmark anniversary, according to the National Park Service.
All challenge participants that hike 100 miles or more between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016, will receive a prize, and the first 100 participants to complete the challenge will receive an additional award.
Hike on any park trail you choose to meet this challenge. With over 100 miles of trail in New River Gorge National River and 10 miles on the Bluestone Turnpike Trail in Bluestone National Scenic River, each path highlights the natural and cultural features of these National Park Service sites…
