A large portion of U.S. 60 collapsed after several rainy days in April. The West Virginia Division of Highways said repairs are expected to be complete by Nov. 30.
BECKLEY, W.Va. — Major road damage blocking one lane of U.S. 60 near Ansted won’t be repaired prior to Bridge Day.
Department of Highways Communication Specialist Carrie Bly said the Turkey Creek/Ansted slide on U.S. 60 went out on bid Tuesday.
With the New River Gorge Bridge closed for the annual event, traffic is detoured along the damaged portion of U.S. 60.
Bly said a contractor awarded the bid will determine what types of traffic control to implement.
Sharon Cruikshank, chair of the Bridge Day Commission, said an alternative detour could be made from Summersville on W.Va. 16 to W.Va. 39, or a traffic light could be installed at the construction site to improve traffic flow, as has been done at similar locations in Fayette County. Neither solution is ideal for the high volume traffic Bridge Day sees, she said.
