Theatre West Virginia to auction props, costumes

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Many Theatre West Virginia items will be auctioned off Saturday at 10 a.m. at the former Mabscott office, located at 102 Spruce St.

Manager Scott Hill said the items need to be sold because the company is moving from a large building to a much smaller office.

“You can only store so much. There’s a lot of stuff to be auctioned off, but nothing that would prohibit us from opening this year.”

Theatre West Virginia is reorganizing operations to bring the region a 54th year of outdoor drama at Cliffside Amphitheatre at Grandview Park. Those efforts were buoyed when the state Legislature came through with $125,000 in funding. Hill and his board of directors are weighing several options on how to raise an additional $325,000 to pay for another season.

Hill said costumes and props for several plays that will not be in the theater’s rotation for the next five years will be auctioned.
