Al Stone, one of the worldâ’s top General Robert E. Lee living history reenactors, tells stories and answers questions as Lee on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at First Guyandotte Baptist Church.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union on April 9, 1865 at the Appomattax Court House in Virginia, essentially ending the American Civil War. On that day and in that spot 150 years later, one of the most revered reenactors to portray the great Confederate leader will retire from the role he has perfected in the past 20 years.
Al Stone is often referred to as one of the best General Lee impersonators in the country. He has appeared in more than 29 movies as the general and participates in more than 20 reenactments each year, including a reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg.
This weekend, Stone will be attending his last Civil War Days in Guyandotte, an annual event of which he has been a part for more than a decade.
Stone, 71, spoke at the First Guyandotte Baptist Church on Thursday as part of the Civil War Days Lecture Series.
