MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Tuesday, Dec. 30, was moving out day for the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority (SWA).
Machinery and equipment in the Morgantown Industrial Park facility’s processing plant was loaded onto trucks while files, office equipment and computers were boxed for transport.
The SWA Board of Directors voted unanimously on Dec. 11 to cease processing at the site and terminate the SWA’s lease for the 20,000 square-foot facility.
The vote was necessary as the SWA struggled to overcome falling commodity prices and a loss of material as surrounding municipalities opted to provide single stream recycling through contracts with Republic Services.
DeBerry said the board also voted to accept the resignation of SWA Executive Director Jessica Maple, who recently announced she was stepping away from the job for health reasons.
Going forward, the SWA will retain a half-time office worker and two drivers, meaning two full-time and one half-time employees will be let go…
