HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A biomedical engineer who grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, will become the 37th president of Marshall University.
Dr. Jerome A. “Jerry” Gilbert, currently the provost and executive vice president at Mississippi State University, was announced as the university’s next president Tuesday, a day after the university’s presidential search committee voted to extend the offer to him. Gilbert will assume the presidency in January, Marshall University Communications Director Dave Wellman said in a news release.
“What an honor it is to be asked to lead Marshall University,” Gilbert said in the press release. “I’ve been so impressed by everything I’ve learned and seen. This is such a wonderful opportunity. All the pieces are in place – fantastic facilities and great academic programs. We are in a position to be able to take Marshall University to another level of excellence and really advance as a major university.
