HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Just as the finalists for the Marshall University president’s position have been announced, the crews working on the renovation of Marshall University’s presidential mansion are taking their work inside.

About two months into the renovation project, the momentum of the $500,000 project soon will shift to the interior of the neoclassical home located at 1040 13th Ave., on the corner of 11th Street, across from Ritter Park.

The renovation is expected to be completed in December, and weather-sensitive exterior work was finished earlier this month, said Ginny Painter, senior vice president of communications and marketing at Marshall.

Among the work that’s been completed is the repair of mortar joints on the exterior of the house, which have developed leaks in recent years. New water, sewer and gas lines were run from the street to the house, and the basement of the home was waterproofed.

As a result of the water, sewer and gas work, a portion of sidewalk was replaced and reworked to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Some interior work on bathrooms in the home also will make those rooms ADA compliant.

In addition to the bathrooms, crews will refinish the hardwood floors, and the kitchen will be remodeled to better accommodate catering services…
