Marshall president chosen, name not yet released

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University students, staff, faculty and supporters could learn this week who the university’s next president will be.

The Marshall University presidential search committee on Monday morning voted without dissent in deciding its preference to become the university’s next president. However, their selection’s name won’t be released until a contract is signed and the state’s Higher Education Policy Commission approves the appointment.

It took the 18-member search committee about one hour and 20 minutes in executive session to deliberate and vote to hire one of the three finalists who visited campus last week.

 “It’s a terrific resolution for Marshall University, for the community,” Marshall Board of Governors President Michael Sellards said after the meeting. “We took into consideration the responses from the community, from the faculty, from the staff of the university, from the students, and input from the public in general as a result of the public receptions. Each member of the board was asked to contribute their conclusion, their recommendation, so we discussed all of those issues and finally came to a conclusion.”

The committee’s decision is subject to the negotiation and execution of an appropriate contract and approval from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission…
