Marshall to meet Maryland in Military Bowl

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall will take on ACC member Maryland in the Military Bowl at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., according to the official release by the bowl on Sunday evening.

This will be the Herd’s 11th bowl game ever with Marshall owning a 7-3 record thus far in its bowl appearances.

The team’s last two bowl appearances ended in victories with a 20-10 win over FIU in the 2011 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl and a 21-17 win over Ohio in the 2009 Little Caesars Bowl.

Maryland’s last bowl appearance came in the Military Bowl in 2010 when the Terrapins defeated East Carolina 51-20 at RFK Stadium, the former venue for the contest.

The Thundering Herd won Conference USA’s East Division and is currently 9-4 after falling 41-24 to Rice in the Conference USA Championship on Saturday in Houston.

Following the game, Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick was offered by the Military Bowl and accepted the offer.

The opponent for the game was not known until Sunday evening and it was based largely on the completion of the ACC Championship Game, which was late Saturday evening…
