This armored vehicle was recently purchased by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department to be used for hostile situations, weather emergencies and other responsibilities.
FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Marion County Sheriff Joe Carpenter and his deputies now have another tool to use to protect the citizens of Marion County.
Carpenter said the department recently purchased an armored vehicle.
About two weeks ago, Carpenter traveled to Lenco Armored Vehicle in Massachusetts to pick up the armored vehicle called BearCat.
Carpenter said the steel-covered vehicle with bulletproof glass cost the department $260,000.
He said the idea of purchasing an armored vehicle has been kicked around for the past few years.
“The way stuff has been going on in our county and the world today, we thought it would be good,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter said when the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) responds to a scene of a hostile emergency, the new vehicle would allow the team to be safe when entering into a bad situation…
