Longtime Wheeling company marks expansion

WHEELING, W.Va. – City, county and state officials were on hand Tuesday morning when TeamSledd, a leading convenience store regional distributor, snipped the ribbon on its $15 million, 200,000-square-foot facility on the company’s Elm Grove property.

TeamSledd is a $450 million distributor that serves convenience stores, cigarette and tobacco stores and other wholesale customers in six states from its headquarters in Elm Grove. The company vacated a 15,000-square-foot, three-story building on Main Street in 1985 to move out to the current site which has expanded to nearly 200,000 square feet. Over time, Sledd has grown its workforce from 88 to 225 employees. It operates a fleet of 40 vehicles.

The new complex houses additional space for freezers, coolers and a dry storage warehouse to better accommodate convenience store customers. Officials also unveiled the SleddMart, an industry-first Convenience Learning Center that allows Sledd to showcase an actual convenience store for its customers and potential customers. The SleddMart, which offers everything various food and other items, also is utilized by the more than 200 employees of the business.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin applauded TeamSledd officials for their decision to stay in West Virginia and expand their business. Tomblin also expressed a commitment to education to prepare future workforces for West Virginia-based businesses.
