Legislative interim meetings coming to Harrison

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The state Legislature will converge in Harrison County in August for interim meetings, getting a firsthand look at the growth occurring in North Central West Virginia, House of Delegates Speaker Tim Miley said Tuesday.

The interim meetings will be Aug. 25-27 at the Bridgeport Conference Center, Miley, D-Harrison, said.

“I’m certainly proud of Harrison County and North Central West Virginia, and I’m excited to show my colleagues the phenomenal growth that’s occurring in the region,” the speaker said.

Miley said he and Senate President Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall, reached an agreement to hold the meetings here.

“All of the delegates from Harrison County really pushed for this, and I’m glad, with the cooperation of Senate President Kessler, we were able to make this happen,” Miley said.

Interim meetings are three-day gatherings that lawmakers have most months when the Legislature isn’t in session.

About 150 people, including lawmakers and staff members, are expected to attend the August sessions, according to a House press release.

“I call the interim sessions the legislative ‘off-season,’” Miley said. “During the legislative ‘off-season,’ we typically have meetings three days every month in Charleston.
