CHARLESTON, W.Va. — When Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants leaves office Thursday, his Chief of Staff Chuck Miller will take his place on a temporary basis, Kanawha County commissioners decided Monday.
Miller will serve for up to 30 days until commissioners appoint a prosecutor to fulfill the rest of Plants’ term, which ends in January 2016.
Last month, a three-judge panel voted to remove Plants from office, finding he had committed malfeasance in office. Plants faces two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and violating a domestic protective order.
Commissioner Dave Hardy said he expects the commission will select a replacement at that meeting, meaning Miller may only end up serving as temporary prosecutor for one week.
