HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A journalist working on an issue deeply affecting the Tri-State was greeted by a standing-room-only crowd at Marshall University on Thursday.
Sam Quinones, the author of “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic,” detailed his work researching the heroin and prescription painkiller problem plaguing the region, and spoke of the need for a renewed sense of community, like what has happened in nearby Portsmouth, Ohio, in finding solutions.
“I love the idea that the antidote is community,” said Jessica Pressman, of Healing Huntington, a sponsor of the event. “We have to join together to fight this problem and embrace our recovery community.”
