CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A historic and key downtown Charleston building is on track for redevelopment.
In mid-August, the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority purchased the former DuPont Hotel on Summers Street for $650,000.
Now, the authority is trying to figure out how to move forward.
“In spite of the fact it’s 90 to 100 years old … it’s very solid,” said Jim Edwards, Urban Renewal Authority director.
Edwards said the authority would likely renovate the building and then try to get it back into private hands — much the same as the authority is doing at 1601 Washington St. E. and 1601 Washington St. W.
“I think the property will be of interest (to developers),” he said.
Located at Summers Street and Brawley Walkway, the building includes addresses from 170 to 178 Summers St. and also has storefronts that face Brawley Walkway…
