Harrison magistrate charged with sexual abuse

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — State Police have arrested Harrison County Magistrate Mark Gorby, accusing him of five counts of felony sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust.

Gorby, 60, of Bridgeport, was released on $100,000 bond after an initial appearance before Senior Magistrate Kim M. Blair of Putnam County. His probable cause hearing is set at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 before Blair, although Gorby’s lawyers, Belinda A. Haynie of Morgantown and Tom Pavlinic of Annapolis, Maryland, indicated to the court that a postponement might be necessary.

Gorby forced sexual intercourse on a female victim who was under age 12 from 2005 through 2009, State Police Cpl. K.G. Murray has alleged.
“The defendant told the victim her mother wasn’t doing her job and she needed to step up and be a big girl,” the complaint alleges.
The investigation began Aug. 11, according to a news release issued by State Police.

Gorby has been absent from work several times during the past two weeks, with the county’s other four magistrates handling his cases…
