Flood assistance options frustrate, confuse some

HICO, W.Va. — A few Ansted residents left a meeting Tuesday at Midland Trail High School dissatisfied with the information they received from Federal Emergency Management Agency and other flood officials.

Cary and Karen Huffman sustained water damages in their pantry, but their home was left largely unharmed by the devastating floodwaters last month.

Their business property, a vacant beauty shop, however, did not fare so well.

“We feel fortunate,” Karen said. “We weren’t devastated by the flood. We weren’t run out of our homes.”

But their application for FEMA assistance will move no further…
