FBI to add more than 230 jobs at Clarksburg facility

The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division will be hiring more than 230 people in the next two years.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The expansion of background checks by President Obama to almost everyone buying a firearm from a dealer, along with other gun rule changes, will bring more than 230 additional jobs to the Clarksburg FBI Center over the next two years, FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer confirmed.

The local FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division is located off the Jerry Dove exit of Interstate 79 in Harrison County. It currently has about 2,500 employees and several hundred contractors, with about 3,000 total workers at the sprawling facility.

“The workload of the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has seen a steady increase over the past 17 years, with December 2015 being the highest month on record for background checks,” Fischer said. “To address this increase in volume, and any increases associated with the executive actions announced by the White House, the FBI will, over the next two years, hire more than 230 additional NICS examiners and other staff…
