Ex-Wayne assessor pleads guilty to embezzlement

WAYNE, W.Va. — Former Wayne County Assessor Eric Hodges on Thursday signed an agreement pleading guilty to two counts of felony embezzlement, which carry a combined maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.

Each count has a 1- to 10-year sentence and a maximum $2,500 fine. Hodges entered the guilty plea before Senior Judge Thomas Steptoe Jr., of Charles Town, West Virginia.

Other charges of computer fraud, two counts of unlawful use of a state purchasing card, threats of terroristic acts, harassing phone calls and assault were dropped in exchange for the plea.
