BECKLEY, W.Va. — New River Community and Technical College now has a Raleigh County campus that is under one roof.

NRCTC President Dr. L. Marshall Washington led a tour of the $15 million facility that houses faculty, staff and administrative offices, laboratories, classrooms and a student center on Friday.

The 55,000-square-foot campus will open Tuesday on University Drive in Beaver behind the Erma C. Byrd Center for Higher Learning, NRCTC Chief Communications Officer Libby Belcher said.

“We’re very pleased to be able to pull all our central office staff together,” said Washington. “It’s the first time we’ve been able to be in one building together, and then to pull the Raleigh County Campus together. Everybody is under one roof.”

NRCTC had been leasing offices in the Harper Park area of Beckley.

Washington pointed out that the new campus location near Interstate 64 in Beaver is convenient for students.

Filled with modern colors and large windows that utilize natural sunlight, the new campus houses Washington’s office, a boardroom and the offices of the vice president for Academic Affairs on the second floor.

The second floor also hosts offices for the dean for WorkForce West Virginia and Continuing Education and the dean for Transfer and Pre-Professional Education, which are the two main programs at the college, along with offices for the chief financial officer, Academic Affairs, purchasing, human resources, communications, instructional effectiveness research and administrative services.

The first floor contains a rotunda, a testing and assessment center to assess students’ academic skills and needs, a Student Government Association office, an office bay, a student services area, science and computer laboratories, classrooms and snack areas…
