BECKLEY, W.Va. — A highlight of Bridge Day 2015 will be aerial demonstrations executed by an All Veteran Parachute Team from Whiskey 7, a C-47 aircraft that flew in the Battle of Normandy during World War II.
The public is invited to see the aircraft up close on Oct. 16 before veteran parachuters jump from the craft and land on New River Gorge Bridge on Oct. 17.
He invites the community to come out for refreshments, hear the history of the plane, and meet the All Veteran Parachute Team.
World War II ground support equipment will be on display during the event, which is sponsored by the airport and both the Beckley-Raleigh County and Fayette County chambers of commerce.
The Raleigh County Memorial Airport will host a pancake breakfast Saturday in appreciation of the parachuting veterans, and area aircraft will fly over. Cochran said he also expects airplane rides to be available at the airport Saturday for a nominal fee.
