Beckley Mayor Bill O’Brien
BECKLEY, W.Va. — Mayor Bill O’Brien’s warm spirits were a sharp contrast to the cold machinery of his hospital room Wednesday afternoon.
The mayor is in the hospital because someone accidentally hit him with their vehicle at Linda Kay Epling Stadium Tuesday night. His shin was fractured and required surgery, he said.
“It’s crazy how life can hit you,” Mayor O’Brien said. “We had our city council meeting and then we went to the Miners game since it’s the last home game.
“It could have been much worse if the car had hit Lynn. It would have struck her right in the abdomen. I wish I was a little more nimble so I could have gotten out of the way.”
Mayor O’Brien said he won’t press charges against the person who hit him.
