Online News Association WV hosts first event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Online News Association West Virginia hosted its inaugural event at the West Virginia University’s Economic Development Center on Saturday morning to discuss trends in the media’s move to digital news delivery.

More than 20 people representing television, print, technology innovators and academia attended the meeting to listen to national and local experts on digital trends.

Kristen Hare of the Poynter Institute spoke via live video conference on successful digital solutions from newspapers around the country.

Dave Mistich, the Digital Editor/Coordinator for WV Public Broadcasting talked about data-driven reporting.

Creator and owner of Voices of Appalachia and Appalachian Geographic & IT Solutions Eric Meadows gave a presentation about Facebook’ Instant Articles and other online innovations.

Eric Eyre, staff writer for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, will discuss his recent award-winning pain pill investigative series.
