The spirit of Thanksgiving: A time for gratitude and giving back

As the holiday season unfolds, I’ve been reminded in recent days of the many friends and blessings that have graced my journey through life. It’s a reflection that feels especially poignant during this time of year, which I have long considered my favorite season.

From Thanksgiving through the end of the year, there is an unmistakable buzz of activity. It’s a time filled with opportunities to celebrate alongside family and friends — sharing meals, laughter, and cherished traditions. In the coming days, we will gather around tables laden with delicious food, tune in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring our very own Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer marching band, cheer for our favorite football teams, and perhaps even venture out for some holiday shopping or special events.

This season is undeniably special. It invites us to pause, to celebrate, and to offer gratitude for the blessings we’ve received. And by all means, we should. We should revel in the joy, love and abundance that this time of year brings.

But as we embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving, we must also remember that gratitude comes with responsibility. Part of celebrating our blessings is recognizing the needs of others — those who face financial struggles, addiction, health challenges or other hardships.
