Today, we at the News-Register celebrate our 134th birthday. It’s amazing to consider that, for nearly a century and a half, this newspaper has been a trusted source of the most important information for the people of the Upper Ohio Valley. From the inaugural edition published Sept. 22, 1890, stewarded by our founder H.C. Ogden, our goal has been to provide you with the most important information to guide your day. We’ve stuck to that goal even as so much has changed in the years since.
The way you consume your news has transformed in many ways. The news, sports and human interest stories we produce are not just found in the traditional pages of the newspaper, but on the screens of your computers and smartphones as well. Yet while how you consume the news has changed, our philosophy in reporting the news has not.
The qualities that made the News-Register the region’s trusted news source continue to this day. We set out to present to you the news that matters most and offer principled leadership through commentary on the events of the day. Through that leadership, we hope to help guide leaders in our local communities and beyond.
Our mission is to provide facts without favor — the clearest, most accurate picture of what is happening in our community. Your trust is our greatest currency, and we strive every day to earn that trust in the way we chronicle the region’s happenings.
And we do so with the most robust team of journalists in the Ohio Valley, men and women who examine the important, the poignant, the entertaining and the interesting. They comb the valley to inform you about the stories you need to know, as well as tell you about the good work your neighbors do in making this community a better place.
