WVU Board of Governors pledges plan to boost athletics spending, competitiveness in NCAA

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — Between a Board of Governors resolution supporting West Virginia University Athletics and the implementation of name, image and likeness (NIL) legislation, last week underlined the renewed commitment that WVU has to college athletics, according to board President Rusty Hutson.

On Friday, the board unanimously passed a resolution that aims to see the university’s athletics programs positioned to the highest possible degree in order to remain competitive with other schools both in and out of the Big 12 Conference.

The resolution directed university administration to present a “financial and operational plan that positions WVU Athletics in the top funding tier among Big 12 institutions, while simultaneously strengthening the University’s paramount core academic mission.”
