Resort making activities available at no charge
CANAAN VALLEY, W.Va. — Timberline Four Seasons Resort welcomes the West Virginia Press Association and its family of newspapers—and their families — to Wild and Wonderful Canaan Valley.
Tracy Herz, vice president of Timberline Four Seasons Resort, invites all convention attendees to partake of the resort’s summer activities with your family — at no cost — to show exactly what Timberline has to offer visitors to Canaan Valley.
Timberline is just a mile from Canaan Valley Resort at 254 Four Seasons Drive, Davis, WV 26260
“We are thrilled that Timberline has extended this offer to our membership. It’s a great opportunity for our members to experience the resort and a chance for Herz and her staff to show off their facility,” said Don Smith, executive director of the WVPA. “Our schedule this year allows time to visit the region and enjoy local activities. There is so much going on in the region. Our attendees should have a great time. Watch for the wedding party headed to the top of the Mountain on the chair lift to exchange vows. What a beautiful view.”
At Timberline, Herz has only one request: That everyone doesn’t go at the same time. Make advance arrangements and let her know how many are in your party by calling or texting Herz at 267-974-3000.
Choose from the following activities and identify yourself as the family of a WV Press Association attending member or show your conference ID. There is no fee for WVPA Convention attendees.
“All of these activities are available to you and your family for the duration of the conference and including Sunday,” Herz said.
Timberline Stables on Timberline Road offers 1-, 2- and 3-hour rides, including pony rides for kids. The longer rides need to be arranged in advance. Times of operation: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm. Available for children is the gemstone and fossil panning and adventure cave. Call this number to make your reservations with Kim or Linda (304)866-4652 or (304) 866-6326. Be sure to leave a detailed message about the number in your party and the time you would like to ride with the Timberline Stables personnel, as well as a return phone number. We might be able to accommodate a ride if you find that you have spare time at the conference and come on over. But to be sure you get the chance, it’s better to call ahead.
____________________________________________________TimberZips is our 4-wide Zip Line. It’s 1,000 feet, 40-feet off the ground. You can go as a family or with some friends and race to the end. The weight requirements are 60 pounds minimum and 250 pounds maximum. The speed is about 30-35 miles per hour. Oh go ahead. Try it once. (FYI: We generally do not run this in high winds or rain.)
_____________________________________________________The Scenic Chair Lift to the Top of the Mountain runs Friday 10 a.m. until 2:30 pm and then again from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. At the top of the mountain you can catch grand vistas of the Canaan Valley, Dolly Sods, distant wind farms and, on a clear day, three states.
______________________________________________________Mountain biking at Timberline is especially unusual because it scales the highest vertical drop of any mountain biking center in the Southeast and you can access trails of varied difficulty levels via the scenic chair lift. It has been ranked among experts in the sport as among the top three venues for downhill mountain biking in the Eastern US. But among its 17 trails this year we’ve added new cross country terrain that first timers and novices can handle with ease. With advance notice, we might be able to arrange for some lessons if you are new to this sport, so let us know if there is interest by calling or texting Tracy at 267-974-3000.
