WV Democrats have a shot at taking back control of House of Delegates, election forecast predicts

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — A new political forecast for the election next week predicts that Democrats are likely to make large gains in the state’s House of Delegates, but who will win control of the chamber is a tossup.

If the forecast holds true, Democrats could even take back the majority. They stand about a 47 percent chance of winning the majority, while Republicans fare only slightly better with a 49 percent chance of a majority, according to the forecast.

“I’m seeing a lot of energy in these House races,” said Belinda Biafore, chairwoman of the state’s Democratic Party. “We fielded a lot of good candidates, so that started the ball rolling. You know I travel the state a lot, and I see a lot of faces out and involved that I haven’t in a long time — and I’m seeing a lot of new faces.
