BECKLEY, W.Va. — After an acute medical issue, Oscar Halstead’s life slowly began unraveling around him.
Prostate trouble and subsequent surgery left the 60-year-old Army veteran unable to work. He had to relocate, leaving behind his 42-year job and his sense of purpose.
“At New River Trading (a sporting goods store in Summersville), it was pretty active. We changed with the seasons. There was always something to do,” Halstead said.
