CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) has announced an original audio drama production “The Last Train to Glen Alum.” Experience the golden age of radio while learning about the 1914 Glen Alum mine payroll robbery, murder and chase through the hills of Mingo County.
“The Last Train to Glen Alum” audio drama premieres Friday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. on your local WVPB radio station.
“This is just another way that West Virginia Public Broadcasting tells West Virginia’s story,” said WVPB Executive Director, Eddie Isom. “We hope that this radio drama will educate our listeners about a story of historical significance to our state and the southern coalfields.”
“Story telling is how people have always developed a sense of community and history,” shared WVPD Director of Broadcast Journalism, Eric Douglas. “Hearing a story and letting your imagination run, picturing the faces and the scenes is a simulating way to learn and be entertained. I think this drama does both.”
The broadcast will conclude with a discussion with a historian on the robbery and the conditions that led to it from a historical perspective. Written by Eric Douglas and produced by Landon Mitchell, this audio drama stars several local voice actors and volunteers.
