CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia state health officer Dr. Rahul Gupta is leaving the Bureau for Public Health to become senior vice president and chief medical and health officer for the March of Dimes, in Washington, D.C.
Gupta’s resignation is effective Nov. 5, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
Gupta said Tuesday the decision to take the job came after he reflected on spending the majority of his time and focus on the opioid epidemic and on issues concerning moms and babies.
