CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Secretary of State Mac Warner on Monday unveiled a mobile app that will allow residents of 24 West Virginia counties who are currently stationed or living overseas to vote using their smartphones.
Afterward, Warner deflected questions on 12 wrongful-termination lawsuits filed against him by employees fired when he took office in January 2017, four of which have been settled out of court for a total of nearly $1 million, saying he looks forward to his day in court.
Warner said the app, developed in partnership with Tusk Montgomery Philanthropies and Voatz Inc., is intended to address a voter participation rate of less than 20 percent for West Virginians serving overseas in the military.
