MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Among the many targets for economic growth listed in the West Virginia Forward initiative, one that could offer the quickest and potentially largest dividend is cybersecurity. That belief that has become the driving force behind a team working to educate, inform and build a statewide coalition in hopes of creating a statewide cybersecurity sector.
“Because it was highlighted in this blueprint for prosperity (WV Forward) and because there is a coordinated action, we’re able to focus and bring to light some of the issues that are being mentioned to help build the sector across the state,” WV Forward Research Fellow Josh Cook said.
The WV Forward initiative was unveiled in September 2017, is the result of a joint effort by West Virginia University, the state Department of Commerce and Marshall University. The study itself was conducted by McKinsey and Co. and funded through private contributions and foundations.
