MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — More than 440 educators from all across the education continuum are expected to convene for two days of collaboration with the goal of improving educational outcomes in West Virginia.
The eighth annual Student Success Summit, which is hosted by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (Commission) and the West Virginia Department of Education, will kick off Wednesday and conclude Thursday. This year’s theme, “Navigating Success: Students today, leaders tomorrow,” will invite discussions regarding how West Virginia’s educators can facilitate the growth and development of students here in the Mountain State from pre-K to postsecondary education and beyond.
More than 50 sessions are scheduled during the two-day summit. Attendees will be educators who work in the fields of elementary and secondary education, postsecondary education, college access and success, student and family services, career and technical education, workforce development and military service and training.
“The Student Success Summit is an opportunity for educators who teach students of all ages to work together and improve educational opportunities for our students,” said Carolyn Long, Interim Chancellor of the Commission. “The sessions led by West Virginia’s very own knowledgeable educators help to ensure that students are ready for the next step in their education, whether that next step is entering elementary school or one of our state’s two- or four-year colleges or universities.”
State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steven L. Paine, praised the state’s educators for their daily work in the classrooms and welcomed educators to share their best practices with one another during the conference.
“West Virginia is packed with skilled educators who work tirelessly every day to make sure that our State’s students have the very best learning opportunities possible,” said Paine. “We hope that educators make the most of their time at this year’s Student Success Summit, and we’re excited to see what they bring back with them to their classrooms.”
