PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Members of the West Virginia Legislature’s Democratic caucus called on Gov. Jim Justice during a press conference Tuesday to let them know what bills they will be asked to consider ahead of the upcoming special session.
Justice has said legislators will be called to the state Capitol in Charleston on Sept. 30 for an extraordinary lawmaking session largely focused on an additional 5% cut to the state’s personal income tax rate.
Although the governor has suggested a number of items that could be included on his special session call in addition to the tax cut proposal, he has yet to release a full agenda or drafts of bills for lawmakers to look over.
“We can’t see the bills on Sept. 30,” said Del. Joey Garcia, D-Marion. “The governor has said that we’ve had enough time to negotiate. Well, he has enough time, with his legal counsel and his staff, to put together the bills that we’re going to be reviewing before this so we can collaborate and find issues that we can solve.”
