HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Vatican has granted its official blessing to the proposed acquisition of St. Mary’s Medical Center by Cabell Huntington Hospital, the last step required before the $165 million transaction could be finalized.
St. Mary’s will retain its name and remain a Catholic-affiliated healthcare facility after ownership is transferred from the Pallottine Missionary Sisters to Cabell Huntington, according to a joint release.
The two hospitals will be unified under a new, single healthcare system while keeping their individual identities, said Dr. Kevin Yingling, chairman of Cabell Huntington’s Board of Directors.
