CHARLESTON, W.Va. — After almost a year of negotiations, jobs will not be lost or moved from Charleston’s postal facility at the Southridge shopping complex.
Several news releases, including one from the United States Postal Service and another from Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., detailed how the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center, 1000 Centre Way in the Southridge complex, will not be turned into a local processing center, but will instead receive millions in upgrades.
“After months of hard negotiating, I am pleased to report that the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center will no longer transition into a local processing center and will receive the millions of dollars needed to better meet the demands of our community,” Manchin said in his statement.
The Charleston Processing and Distribution Center has been the subject of much debate recently. In November, plans were announced to review, and then potentially consolidate, the facility’s operations into facilities in Pittsburgh and Pennwood Place, Pennsylvania. These plans are part of the 10-year Delivering for America plan, which aims to improve organization and operation across the Postal Service.
