BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The school year can present many challenges to students as well as their parents. In Upshur County, school leadership is looking for new ways to support students and their families with anything they may need.
The county is participating in a program offered through the Cook Center for Human Connection that aims to help families, Superintendent Christy Miller said.
“The Department of Education has made about a $4 million investment in the Cook Center’s offering called Parentguidance.org,” she said. “It is a free service for all of our families across the state of West Virginia.”
The service connects parents to a certified professional who can help them with any issues their child may be facing in school, Miller said.
“It is actual coaching for parents,” she said. “It’s bi-weekly through Facetime, and what it is is really competent coaching that provides a roadmap for parents in helping them understand their children better and how they can go about supporting their students as they move through the school system.
