U.S. Attorney General announces new opioid task force

WASHINGTON, D.C. –The U.S. Justice Department is rolling out a new task force to target makers and distributors of prescription painkillers who U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions says have contributed to the country’s opioid crisis.

At a press conference held at the DOJ Tuesday afternoon, Sessions introduced the “Prescription Interdiction and Litigation Unit,” or PIL, to target opioid manufacturers and distributors.

Sessions said the DOJ will use criminal and civil litigation to hold distributors such as pharmacies, pain management clinics, drug testing facilities and individual physicians accountable.
