HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Two local federal buildings were among hundreds of federal properties targeted for potential sale or closures in an online list Tuesday that was taken offline hours later.
The Federal Building at 502 8th St. in downtown Huntington, which houses the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Huntington District headquarters, and the Carl D. Perkins Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse at 99 15th St. in Ashland were included on a long list of federal buildings on the General Services Administration’s (GSA) “non-core property list.”
Ashland Mayor Chuck D. Charles said Wednesday he was unaware of the potential sale of the Carl D. Perkins Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. As such, he said it was too early for him to make a statement as he wants to seek clarity on the situation.
